As the seasons begin to change, so should your skincare routine. Spring is all about renewal, and your skincare routine should reflect this. Spring brings warmer temperatures, increased humidity, and longer days, which means it’s time to transition from winter’s calm and soothe to a refresh and renew approach. Here are my essential spring skincare tips you should consider adopting to help you achieve a radiant, healthy glow all season long.
UPDATE YOUR CLEANSER
In summer the oil and sweat gland is more active. When sebum (oil) is produced in excess, it can lead to various skin concerns such as clogged pores, acne breakouts, enlarged pores, dull skin, uneven texture, and the progression of oil related skin diseases. If you’ve been using a heavy conditioning cream cleanser in winter, switch to a lightweight, foaming, or gel-based formula in spring. This can help remove sweat, excess oil, and impurities without over-drying your skin.
PAY ATTENTION TO ALLERGIES
Spring allergies can cause skin irritation, redness, and puffiness. If you’re prone to seasonal allergies, you may find your skin is more sensitive. On days of heightened allergies opt for a soothing cleanser and toner over your usual prescription cleanser. Hydra-mists can also help soothe and cool, repairing the skins barrier function. Cooling eye gels can also help reduce puffiness.
EXFOLIATE FOR A FRESH START
Spring is the perfect time to slough off winter’s dry, flaky skin. Use a gentle exfoliator at least 2-3 times a week to remove dead skin cells and reveal a brighter complexion.
Opt for chemical exfoliants with AHAs or BHAs if you have a sensitive skin type.
A course of mild to moderate Chemical skin peels or Hydrafacials are an ideal option to remove dull dehydrated skin of winter and unveil fresh new smoother skin for your spring time unveiling.
RAMP UP YOUR ANTIOXIDANT PROTECTION
Spring is the time to ramp up your skin’s protection against environmental damage. Look for serums and creams containing time released antioxidant protection, to fight free radicals and inflammation in the skin as well as brightening your complexion, and even out skin tone all day long.
ADJUST YOUR MAKE UP ROUTINE
Heavy foundations can feel suffocating as temperatures rise. Swap them for a lightweight tinted sun screen for a fresh, dewy look that still provides coverage and sun protection. My personal favourite duo is using a physical sunscreen with a built-in primer for optimal protection and layering with a tinted sunscreen as your foundation on top for a light sun kissed glow.
TRY A SKIN BOOSTER TREATMENT
Spring is the perfect time to give your skin an extra boost. Skin booster treatments, like hyaluronic acid injections or hydrating facials, help improve skin texture, hydration, and elasticity, leaving you with a radiant glow just in time for warmer weather.
