It is often mis construed as form of scaring but from the name itself it is a form of pigmentation.
It is caused due to inflammation and a trauma of the skin that is often associated with acne and eczema and will present itself as a brown, blue or reddish hue where the trauma was active. Whereas acne scaring is in the dermis this is in the upper levels of the skin known as the epidermis. UV exposure can darken and worsen the appearance of the pigmentation, so it is imperative that a medical sunscreen is used.
PIH once treated is permanent. However, if acne is not controlled and prevented then more PIH can occur, the same is true of eczema flare ups.
Hyper pigmentation caused from sun damage or a hormonal imbalance is a lifelong condition that must be maintained and prevented from reoccurring.
To treat this condition, I use a medical grade, prescriptive skincare protocol to stimulate the skins natural repair and resurfacing process to lift the damaged skin cells out of the skin. This is done using glycolic acid, retinols, and other hydroxy acids to resurface the skin and repair damaged cells correcting the the DNA messages sent causing the damage.
This takes time as a normal healthy skin cycle takes on average 6 weeks.
