It is not a curable condition but can be corrected and controlled via maintenance to prevent it from reoccurring. Acne causes redness, inflammation and can be painful to touch. It is a direct result of hyper keratinisation – a build-up of skin cells and an over production of sebum(oil). This causes an increase in bacteria (normally harmless) and it causes inflammation in the form of a breakout.

Often a patient with acne can find their skin to be quite unbalanced describing symptoms of both oily and dry skin. The face is the most common area to be affected by acne, however, can also be present on the back and chest. Whilst acne is typically associated as a teenage skin disease it is common in adults, even those that were breakout free in their teens. It is usually a condition caused by hormones, but other factors such as diet and use of poor standard skincare can exacerbate the condition. It does not matter if you have one breakout a day or a month, even black heads and enlarged pores are classed as acne.

The SKINBOSS’s acne skin journey will require patience and commitment. We will have to decongest your follicles and regulate the oil gland, lifting the active disease up and out of the skin, also known as purging. It can sometimes appear to be worse before it gets better. Maintenance and consistency is essential to keep your skin clear and glowing. During your consultation I will firstly determine what could be contributing towards your condition and find out the root cause of your acne.

The initial treatment protocol I propose will be customised to suit your condition, needs and goals. Future treatments will be adapted to help you with your maintenance. Acne is one of my favourite conditions to treat – seeing my patients confidence increase alongside their glowing skin is extremely rewarding.
